ONE ZAMBIA ………..

Zambian flag

ONE NATION is the reply…it’s been more than 40 years since I’ve said that and in the last day I’ve said it TWICE!

In fact, Kumasi is now hopping thanks to football tourism. In less than an hour, Zambia will kick off in an all-important World Cup Qualifier and Four Villages Inn has had Zambian guests, our first in fact since FOUR VILLAGES INN opened on January 1, 2000.

Our first arrival was Mazuba Kaunda…name sound familiar? he’s the former President’s grandson. Here we are shaking hands. He’s the second Kaunda I’ve shaken hands with. Yes, I shook hands with former President Kenneth Kaunda, K.K. as he was affectionately called, way back in 1970 when he came to open Petauke Secondary School where I served two years as a young Canadian University Services Overseas (CUSO) volunteer.
Mazuba and me
When I said good-bye to Mazuba, he’s with the Zambia contingent and they are more than likely headed back to Accra after the game, I said, “Say hello to your granddad for me.” and he graciously replied, ” He’ll be happy to hear I stayed with somebody who had worked in Zambia.”

Then, a few hours later, I said hello to Chris and Ernest who arrived, checked in and then off they went to the game.

So you must be wondering who I am hoping for…well Ghana considering the over twenty years I’ve lived here, but should it go the other way…no sweat…

ONE GHANA, ONE NATION!
